「SPIN THIS NOW」は、今の時代にこそ聴いてほしい和ジャズの作品達を集めた再発プロジェクトです。
本プロジェクトが焦点を当てる“和ジャズ”とは、単なる日本人によるジャズではなく、1950〜80年代の昭和期に、本場に匹敵するクオリティで演奏を行った日本人プレーヤーたちの貴重な録音群を指します。卓越した演奏技術に加え、日本ならではのテーマやメロディーは世界的にも高く評価され、近年SNSやサブスクリプションを通して海外からの人気と注目が一層高まっています。
「SPIN THIS NOW!」は、そうした和ジャズの名演をあらためてアナログレコードで届けたいという想いから生まれました。当時の日本人プレーヤーたちが本場に挑み続けた熱量や創造性を、よりダイレクトに体感してください。
“SPIN THIS NOW” is a reissue project gathering Japanese jazz works we want you to hear, especially in this era.
The “Japanese jazz” this project focuses on isn’t simply jazz by Japanese musicians, but rather the invaluable recordings made by Japanese players during the Showa era (1950s-80s), whose performances rivaled the quality of the original jazz scene. Beyond their exceptional technical skill, the uniquely Japanese themes and melodies have garnered high international acclaim. In recent years, popularity and attention from overseas have surged further through social media and subscription services.
“SPIN THIS NOW!” was born from the desire to deliver these legendary Wajazz performances anew on vinyl. We hope listeners will experience more directly the passion and creativity with which Japanese players of that era continually challenged the jazz world.

Originally released in 1978, “But Not for Me” is a masterpiece that fuses African polyrhythms with spiritual jazz, created by the singular jazz pianist Masabumi Kikuchi. The album is now set to be reissued by “Spin This Now!”.

A gem of a crossover album from Isao Suzuki, who has continued to lead the Japanese jazz scene as a bassist. Capturing the vibrant energy of the 1970s, this record has been rediscovered by club music aficionados and rare groove collectors alike. The album fuses Van Morrison–like bluesy grooves with deep funk and jazz sensibilities, along with a uniquely Japanese melodic sense.

菊地雅章グループで頭角を現した峰厚介が、自身のレギュラー・グループを率いて録音した作品。板橋文夫を含む気鋭のミュージシャンを揃えたグループの演奏は重厚にして躍動感が溢れ、あたかも新たな時代の幕開けを告げるかのような勢いと鮮烈さがある。この時期コルトレーンからの影響を受けていたという峰のプレイには閃きとスケールの大きさがあり、「Thirsty」や「Daguri」など、突き抜けるような旋律を圧倒的な表現力で吹き切っている。ダイナミズム、リリシズム、エキゾチシズムを兼ね備えた、峰の代表作とするに相応しい存在感に満ちた作品である。全曲自身による作曲。1973年録音。
Kosuke Mine, having gained recognition in the Masabumi Kikuchi Group, recorded this work with his regular ensemble. Featuring emerging musicians including Fumio Itabashi, the performances are both weighty and vibrant, with a momentum and clarity that suggest the dawn of a new age. During this period influenced by Coltrane, Mine’s playing brims with insight and scale, delivering transcendent melodies in tracks like “Thirsty” and “Daguri.” With its combination of dynamism, lyricism, and exoticism, this is truly a work worthy of being called one of Mine’s masterpieces. All tracks are composed by Mine himself. Recorded in 1973.
